Thiruvananthapuram tops the list of 30 smart cities announced by government
This Friday government announced the list of 30 smart cities for development . total 90 cities are picked up under the mission , in which Thiruvananthapuram ( capital of kerala) topped the list , followed by naya Raipur ( chattishgarh’s new capital). Along with these jammu and Srinagar joined the list where as meerut , Ghaziabad and few other cities failed to find place. Dehradun( capital of uttharakhand ) made it to the list.
All these names where announced by the union urban minister mr. venkaiah naidu. Due to non- participation of few cities like Bengal and Mumbai the count of the cities got down from 40 to 30.many cities under consideration failed to meet the minimum qualifying mark. From the reports from 45 entries 40 cities have slots but only 30 got the smart tag as the other cities couldn’t meet the expectations .few cities like got a tie ( like raebareli and meert) to earn the place in the list. The reason for selecting few cities is also stated that to ensure feasible and workable plans matching the aspirations of the citizens.
Total amount of RS 57,393 crore has been proposed under respective plans in smart cities. after this total number of such cities gone upto 90 making the investment upto RS 1,91,155 crore.
From the finalized list twenty six cities have been selected as affordable housing projects which will benefit the urban poor ,these cities will also take up school and hospital projects. Twenty nine cities will be taking up redevelopment and redesign programs that benefit the common man.
Venkaiah naidu stated that “ All of them will put in place integrated command and control centres that enable coordination among various agencies for better services delivery and effective management of scarce resources like water and power. So, these are not mere cosmetic changes”.
