Hyderabad introduces penalty points system for driving offenses.
A system of penalty points is introduced in Hyderabad where frequent violations of traffic would lead up to increase in penalty points and finally lead to suspension of the driving license.
This system is first of its kind move in the country. It is to be launched on August 1st and devised by Hyderabad Traffic Police who would allocate penalty points for each driving offense ranging from 1 to 5 operating under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad as per his official statement said,"The Penalty Point System is being introduced for the first time in India to inculcate self-discipline among commuters with a view to transforming Hyderabad city into a safe place for commuting and a delightful place for driving. The implementation of the Penalty Point System shall come into effect from 01.08.2017.“
As per the stated rules of the system, a total of 12 points in 24 months would lead to suspension of the driving license for a year. After the license is revoked if the party commits offenses accounting for another 12 points, It would result in suspension of license for 2 years.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy further said,"A severe violation will add more points than a less severe one. This kind of system is being introduced for the first time in India in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda."
Let us hope that this system finally gives us better drives on road.
